The Immortal Twin by D.B. Woodling
The Immortal Twin by D.B. Woodling
Blurb: Celeste Torok and her twin brother Nick could not be more different. Celeste is as introverted as Nick is charismatic. There is one thing, though, they have in common: they are mortal. Their immortal adoptive parents made sure of that.
When Nick’s rebellious ways place Celeste in danger, she is forced to seek safety in the Midwest. As if the familial alienation isn’t enough, she’s tormented by her forbidden desire for Tristan, the supreme warrior of her parents’ coalition, the Realm. With her future uncertain and her past shattered, she follows in her biological father’s footsteps and joins law enforcement.
As lead investigator on several bizarre child abduction cases, Celeste soon discovers that bullets and modern weaponry will not stop these criminals, and that a war is brewing between the Realm and renegade vampires. Celeste joins Tris.
Review 3/5
I received a free audiobook of this novel from Netgalley! In exchange for an honest review. I am a huge fan of vampires and I also happen to have a twin sister so this book automatically caught my eye! First, I would like to say that the plot was interesting, but it did start to become confusing. I think Celeste was naive and made poor choices. While her twin brother Nick was more likable. Nick is the bad boy, but of course, he just wants to be loved and accepted. I won't spoil anything but I think this book needed to slow down and give a tad more backstory. With that being said I would give it a shot, but I don't know if I would read another book by this author.
D.B. Woodling is a former actor, singer, and, judging from her novels, an empath equivalent. When she isn’t breathing life into unforgettable fictional characters, she’s selecting the “greenest” horse from the herd and holding on for dear life.
Many of her novels were born either in a hayloft, deep within a forest, or in her writer’s lair surrounded by snoring four-legged friends. While she doesn’t strap on a Glock-19 and a Kevlar vest when writing detective novels, stealthy observers have witnessed her head bent in concentration beneath a Stetson cowboy hat while writing nineteenth-century historical fiction, or encountered her in a worn Vampire Creator jersey while writing her new paranormal romance, The Immortal Twin, published by CamCat Books on October 27, 2020.
